Transitioning Seniors into Retirement and Promoting Men's Health

Sept. 14, 2025 ~ Lynn Bruer, senior director of community outreach and wellness for Jewish Family Services of Metro Detroit, discusses how leaving the workforce at retirement age is a significant life transition. To address this, the organization will launch a pilot series with a new group of participants on Sept. 29 called Retirement Reimagined – the first and only of its kind in the U.S. – which empowers retirees with the tools and knowledge to create a personal vision for the next successful chapter of their lives and develop a roadmap for achieving it. Dr. Akhil Gulati, of Corewell Health, discusses the upcoming Men's Health Event at Ford Field on Sept. 20. Men 18 years and older, with or without health insurance, are encouraged to take advantage of this free event focused on preventative healthcare. Services will include vital screenings, bloodwork, vaccinations, HIV testing, oral cancer and dental checks, vision screenings, skin cancer screenings, vein dopplers, foot screenings, colorectal cancer FIT kits, posture and spine evaluation, kidney screenings, and mental health evaluations.
